Lesson 2: Topic 7 of 14
Let’s turn our attention from working with your current staff toward finding people who match your ethical values.
Integrating the Golden Rule into the fabric of your facility takes more than posters on the wall and pep talks. You will need a critical mass of staff members who buy into the vision in order to have a truly service-minded community. You have to start with the staff you already have, but when it comes to adding new ones, seek out those who will fit the corporate culture you’re already creating!
When filling staff positions, make corporate core values prominent, either as text in the job posting, or accessible through a link to your site. That step alone will reduce a certain number of applicants who realize you’re not a good fit for them.
Sifting through all those digital resumes that hit your inbox might feel like a somewhat randomized process. Skill sets and education are easy enough to identify, but personal values (how well they work as part of a team, how they deal with conflict, et. cetera) are more difficult to discern. The best way to do that is to seek to discern the candidate’s motives, beliefs, and attitudes. This is frequently known as values-based interviewing.
