Tying this section back to the previous one on mindset, here are some other things to keep in mind that’ll help you keep good employees:

  • Prevention-minded staff prefer to work deliberately and strive for accuracy, whereas promotion-minded ones tend to work faster and love spontaneity.

  • Implementing-thinkers are action oriented, as opposed to deliberating-thinkers who want as much data as possible before making decisions.

  • Learning-oriented people are great for research, versus performing-oriented ones who would rather be seen to have accomplished something tangible.

  • Fixed-thinking people prefer the status quo, so they’re great for maintaining current systems. Your growth-thinking employees are the ones you should assign to novel, ground-breaking projects.
